HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR STORY

1958-1960s

The Beginning

SM founder Henry Sy, Sr. opened the first Shoemart on Avenida Street in 1958.

1970s

One-Stop Shop

Inspired by lessons from his travels against a post war economic boom, more SM stores were added - the likes of Carriedo Manila, Makati, Cubao, and Metro Cebu.

1980s

The Malling Culture

Already a visionary, Mr. Sy defied the odds when he built SM North EDSA in the middle of a swampland during one of the most turbulent times in Philippine history.

1984 to 1985

We’ve Got It All For You

The iconic jingle and slogan “We’ve got it all for you” was launched. The first SM Supermarket opened its doors at SM Makati Annex Building in 1985, adding to Mr. Sy’s vision to have a store that has got it all.

1990s

The Expansion of Malling, Going Public

Mr. Sy embarked on one of SM’s biggest mall projects - SM Megamall and opened it on June 28, 1991. It featured the country’s first ice-skating rink, giving our tropical country its first taste of ice skating.

2000s

Debut of SM Investments

2005 marked the initial public offering of SM Investments Corporation, the group’s holding company which raised P28.75 billion. This was the largest IPO in the local bourse’s history at that time.

2006

The Most Ambitious Project

Henry Sy once said the Mall of Asia was his most ambitious project, a superstructure mall envisioned to bolster tourism growth.

2009-2022

Landmark Achievements

SM Prime Holdings announced a merger of all the company’s property assets including malls, residences, offices, hotels, convention centers, and leisure-related developments creating one of the largest property conglomerates in Southeast Asia.

As we move into the future, in 2022, we refreshed our brand and now carry a vibrant electric SM blue as well as a unified typeface “Henry Sans” named after our founder Henry Sy, Sr. We will continuously develop our brand and invest in our legacy.
