At SM Retail, we cultivate a culture of gratitude by encouraging our team members to acknowledge each other’s contributions with a simple “thank you” and by using our #TYSMRetail stickers and notepads in our everyday SM Life.
Our basic needs as human beings to survive include clean air, water, food, shelter, and sleep. What’s the sixth basic need then? Several studies suggest safety, growth, stability, connection or relationships, and gratitude.
Wait! Gratitude? Why Gratitude?
Gratitude fosters contentment and fulfillment by appreciating things like relationships, work/livelihood, and leisure. One’s sense of contentment and fulfillment is closely associated with being grateful.
Making mistakes can make one feel bad, but having the opportunity to bounce back from those mistakes can help us grow and become better people. It allows us to understand what went wrong and improve ourselves. Being grateful for these lessons helps us appreciate how they make us stronger and wiser. Each mistake teaches us something valuable, making us more resilient and kinder as we learn and grow.
Cultivating a culture of gratitude in the workplace is a powerful practice that can profoundly impact our daily interactions. When colleagues advocate gratitude, it fosters a supportive environment where appreciation for each other’s contributions becomes an integral part of the team culture. Genuine expressions of appreciation create a positive atmosphere of mutual respect and recognition. This reciprocity strengthens bonds, encourages continued support, and cultivates a sense of unity. By acknowledging and valuing each other’s contributions, we create a harmonious environment where everyone feels seen and appreciated.
